Good Evening,

My name is Griffin Ogg (she/her). I am a senior undergraduate at the University of Arizona, and I am currently working on an honors thesis that investigates the issue of transgender people and incarceration. I wanted to reach out to see if the Latino Equality Alliance can help me with my research.

For this thesis, I am investigating the experience of trans individuals. Specifically, I want to reveal how trans individuals are placed into facilities that do not align with their gender, creating unsafe conditions, as well as how this policy might be implemented inconsistently. To do so, I have created a survey that can be emailed out to formerly incarcerated transgender and other gender non-conforming people. With this survey, I hope to expose some of the inhumanity and transphobia in the prison-industrial complex. However, I need this survey to be distributed, and therefore, I am looking for organizations (such as this one) to send it through its newsletters or email. Specifically, I am wondering if the Alliance can spread it through its mailing list, social media, etc. If it can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

I do not intend to merely report the data I collect. I hope to do advocacy work with it as well, as it is very important.

Thank you for your time,

Griffin Ogg

My name is Emma and I’m reaching out from the Center for Transyouth Health and Development at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to share information about a research study we are conducting. The study is called the Gender Journey Project and it’s a study about the experiences of prepubescent transgender, non-binary, and gender-diverse youth, and I’m looking for organizations and groups that work with these children or their parents and caregivers. The study is funded by the NIH and is trying to better understand the effects of supporting children through social transition. We’re enrolling children who are at least 6 years old and haven’t yet started puberty, along with their parent or caregiver.

Please feel free to get in contact with me for more information about the study or to refer potential participants. Anyone who’s interested in participating can call, text, or email me to ask questions about the study and find out more about participation. My number is (323) 505-2840 and my email is [email protected].

would LEA please endorse and promote a 2021 Unity/Solidarity march at the end of June in L.A.(Silverlake area)?

Since not physical Pride march will be organized by CSW this year, and because so much racist violence is still escalating against our diverse communities, please help us build a united solidarity march from the historic Black Cat in Silverlake up Sunset Blvd to Barnsdall Park with these united demands:

- “end anti-Asian violence”

- “Black Lives Matter”

- “End Deportations” & “Full Rights for all Immigrants & lgbtq people”.

This location on Sunset Blvd, is also site of the LARGEST lgbtq march in L.A. history (Nov. 8 2008) when, united, we took over the streets to end the anti-lgbtq “Prop 8” and demand our equality.

This Pride month we demand more: Unite our communities, AAPI, Latinx, Black & lgbtq now!

No pressure, but we would VERY MUCH appreciate your participation and collaboration. Thank you.

Greetings, Hope this email finds you well. My name is Veronica Cordido, I am a translator, a medical interpreter and an English as a Second Language Instructor and I partner with LGBTQ+ Foundations and Organizations in order to bring top-notch, online English as a Second Language classes to the LGBTQ+ Immigrant Community. Why offer online ESL classes for the LGBTQ+ Immigrant Community exclusively? Many LGBTQ+ Immigrants residing in the USA have faced persecution and hostility in their own countries for being who they are. Some of them have been granted political asylum, but once here, they find it hard to adapt, connect and make friends due to the LEP or lack of English proficiency. That same lack of English proficiency makes it hard for them to navigate the healthcare and the legal systems, putting them in great disadvantage. In addition, a lack of social connections and social isolation in a foreign country makes them prone to anxiety, depression and other mental, emotional and physical ailments.  An online ESL Classroom for LGBTQ+ Immigrants offers: A safe place where they can learn English while being themselves. A place where they can use their names, pronouns and go through their changes comfortably and at ease, without fears of rejection.A place where bullying and discrimination is simply not allowed and where they can create friendships and bonds with people alike and therefore get a sense of belonging and acceptance.A place where they will gain confidence, improve their self-esteem and learn a new skill that will change their lives for the better, forging them a good future in their new country. Save LGBTQ+ Immigrants from facing poverty levels by not having the language skills required to get better jobs. Also, save them from being marginalized or put in danger, physically and legally for not being able to communicate. LEP has cost some people their lives in healthcare settings when communication goes wrong. In English, the word “intoxicated” means being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, while in Spanish, being “Intoxicado” means to have food poisoning. An almost identical word conveys two completely different meanings and treatments. This mistake cost someone his life and it is now a widely used example of lack of proficiency in the healthcare industry. The Program we use: Cambridge Interchange 5th Edition, Presentation Plus. We offer the Cambridge Interchange 5th Edition, the latest, best and most expensive online ESL program in the market and we offer it for free, we only charge for the tutoring hours. In addition, we use Cambridge’s top notch technology, Presentation Plus, an online platform with interactive activities, audios, videos, games, reading passages, grammar points and much more. It follows the conversational approach, so we engage students into talking from day 1.  Ask us for a sample class! Also, we have incorporated Google Classroom, so that students can access all class materials and lessons at no cost, 24/7…A student missed a class? No problem, they can log in to Google Classroom and get up to date anytime and anywhere. They can also ask questions and interact with the teacher and other students outside of the classroom. What does the program consist of?The program has 4 Basic Levels (A1, A2, B1, B2) & 2 Advanced Levels (C1 & C2)Each level lasts 4 months if it meets twice a week for 2 hours each time.It is offered through Presentation Plus: an Online Cambridge Platform.Google Classroom has been incorporated for students to have access to all given in class. It’s offered to students for free, being a very costly and prestigious program in the private industry. All students are evaluated and given feedback.    Presentation Plus: Online Cambridge Platform  Program cost: Part of the service I provide this community is to offer top-notch, high quality classes with the latest program and a highly technological platform for free, all I charge for are my hours of tutoring which is $60/Hour and I can host up to 15 (top 20) students per class. The ideal amount of time to finish a level in 4 months is to meet for 4 hours a week, however, I can customize the plans by sacrificing the length of the program if a limited budget requires it. Please check out my PDF presentation along with my reputation on Google Reviews, my students have advanced incredibly and I can help yours achieve that too. https://g.page/VC-Languages?gm. I currently work with the Gay and Lesbian Community Center in Manhattan and Translatinx Network, also in NYC  Please call us to schedule a sample class or join us in our effort to educate LGBTQ+ Immigrants and gift them a skill that will help them thrive in life. Check out our proposal here attached for more information and to access our class introductory videos. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Sincerely,Veronica CordidoVC-Languages+1 (347)[email protected]

Good Afternoon,

My name is Anthony Perez, I am in the process of an ongoing discrimination case against a major company and while trying to fight for justice I was once again discriminated against by the Courts. Now for the details about this case I’d prefer to speak about over the phone or in person. As someone who’s apart of the Latino and LGBT community I feel that it’s time for me to start speaking up about this and I think now it’s time for me to come toward about everything that’s been going on. Starting with my first amendment being taken away from me. I currently have Legal Aid Attorney’s representing me and I am looking for other LGBT organization or supporters who are willing to join me in the fight against discrimination so that this doesn’t continue to happen. If you can help, please feel free to contact me. I look forward to hear back from you.

Yours truly,

Anthony Perez

My name is David Lopez, Outreach Specialist, for a new organization that has been established to promote diversity within our agency and educate youths about scholarship opportunities. We understand the element of diversity and want to vastly incorporate this in our mission, but the only way to accomplish this is by informing the youths about us. I would welcome an opportunity to share our program with your members. We have already begun workshops with local Latino organizations to achieve a more well rounded agency. I look forward to your response and I thank you, in advance, for your attention to my correspondence.

Hello,

My name is Jude and I’m a Casting Associate at Tiffany Company Casting (www.tiffanycompanycasting.com), a Los Angeles-based commercial casting office. I’m reaching out because we’re casting a PAID nationwide commercial for a Frozen Ice Pop Brand. We thought you might know teens that might be a great fit for this project!

This ad campaign will spotlight real, diverse teens, 13 – 17 yrs old, who love creating their own videos for TikTok, YouTube, Snapchat and/or other social media platforms. This commercial is highlighting teens, and all their passions and truths. Because we are seeking teens under 18, we would like to be in contact with parents and guardians to see if their teen would be interested in this fun opportunity?

Also, please share this email & flyer with anyone you think might be great for this as we are casting more than one child for this project.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: This Tuesday February 23, 2020 by 6:00 PM PST/9:00PM EST

I hope this finds you well! I’m a reporter with NBC News working on an article about the push for neutral gender pronouns for Spanish speakers, specifically an equivalent to “they/them” pronouns. I’ve heard a bit about the pronoun “elle” being used for people who don’t feel represented by “él” or “ella”. I was wondering if you have time to chat with me sometime next week about the use of this and the push for gender-neutrality in Spanish overall.

I am an intern working for University of California Cooperative Extension to create a statewide educational campaign for healthcare professionals, medical providers, community organizations, and decision-makers in response to how COVID-19 affects the LGBTQ+ population. In order to inform our educational campaign, we have created a needs assessment survey. This survey is intended to gather data from our three target audiences: LGBTQ+ individuals, community serving organizations, and healthcare providers. The goal of the campaign is to increase healthcare equity for LGBTQ+ individuals.

We could really use your help in disseminating the survey to the healthcare providers in your organization! All answers are confidential and no prior expertise in working with LGBTQ+ individuals is needed in order to take the survey. Here is the shortened link to the Qualtrics survey: https://bit.ly/2QIbZTI
