Know Your Rights: Boyle Heights LGBT Town Hall on Social Security Benefits
 on Thurs., March 20th Urges Married Same-Sex Couples to Register

WHAT:           LGBT community members are invited to hear a panel of national advocates at the Know Your Rights: Boyle Heights LGBT Town Hall on Social Security Benefits event. Leaders will provide critical information on how the changes in federal policies since Proposition 8 and Section 3 of DOMA (Defense of Marriage Act) were overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court last summer may affect LGBT people and their families.

WHY:               In an effort to assure full access to federal benefits by married same-sex couples, LGBT parents with minor children, LGBT individuals who are retired or age 50+ planning for retirement, LGBT individuals who paid into social security and might draw disability benefits to register with the Social Security Administration. 

WHEN:            Thursday, March 20

                         6 p.m. Reception; 7 p.m. Program

WHERE:         The New City Hall in Boyle Heights (2130 E. 1st St., Los Angeles)

WHO:              Coordinated by the Latino Equality Alliance, API Equality-LA, Jordan/Rustin Coalition, and the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare in collaboration with LGBT and civic organizations to help those affected benefit from the very positive financial impact of these federal benefits.
